Join us at the American Legion Fairgrounds
for a day of horsepower, hometown fun, and community support. This isn't just another car show - we've got classic cars, motorcycles, jeeps, vendors, food, raffles, and more.
Every day, an estimated 22 veterans in the U.S. take their own lives. At Midwest Motorfest, we believe even one is too many.
That’s why we’re proud to support Charlie 22 Outdoors—a nonprofit that provides free outdoor adventures for veterans and their families. From hunting and fishing to connection and healing, Charlie 22 reminds our heroes that they are seen, valued, and never alone.
Their name honors both the crisis they’re fighting and the legacy of a local soldier, Sergeant First Class Jess Hettinger, a drill instructor at Charlie Company 2nd Battalion – 2nd Brigade (Charlie 22).
This isn’t just a car show—it’s a chance to be part of something bigger. To stand with our veterans. To help save lives.
Midwest Motorfest is happening the same weekend as one of Southeast Kansas’ most exciting events—the Columbus Day Festival and Hot Air Balloon Regatta!
We’re thrilled to be part of the energy this weekend brings to our community.
Experience the Best of Both Events
While you're checking out the incredible vehicles at Midwest Motorfest, don't miss the opportunity to head downtown and enjoy everything the Columbus Day Festival has to offer—including the Hot Air Balloon Regatta, delicious food, and amazing local craft vendors.
About the Hot Air Balloon Regatta
The Columbus Day Festival’s Hot Air Balloon Regatta is one of the fastest-growing attractions in Southeast Kansas, featuring 20 hot air balloons from all over the region.
Friday night kicks off with a stunning balloon glow, where glowing colors light up the night sky in a spectacular display. Saturday and Sunday feature thrilling Hare & Hound balloon races, with multiple launches throughout the weekend (weather permitting).
Each balloon and pilot is proudly sponsored by members of the Columbus Chamber of Commerce and local businesses, making this a true hometown tradition.
One Town. Two Great Events. Endless Memories.
Whether you're a car enthusiast, balloon fan, or just looking for a fun weekend, Columbus is the place to be October 11-12, 2025. Join us for a celebration of community, creativity, and horsepower—both on the ground and in the sky.

Fred Sill was a natural-born car guy.
Born in Joplin, MO, in 1952, he lived his whole life in this area. At the early age of 15, he bought a 1940 Ford from the fire chief in Pittsburg, KS. He restored it and drove it all his life.
Fred built numerous cars, hot rods, dune buggies, and race cars. He was a perfectionist. Anyone who had ever ridden with him knew how much he loved to go fast. They called him “Fast Freddy.”
One time, as a teenager, he was racing a guy on N. Main St. in Joplin and got a ticket for going 145 mph in a 45 mph zone. The only thing his dad asked him was, “Did you win?”
Fred and Jack Johnson met while dragging Main St. in Joplin. Later, they opened Action Auto Parts in Columbus, KS. They originated the Columbus Days Car Show, which sometimes had as many as 200 entries.
The family is honored that the Fred Sill Memorial Plaque is awarded every year.
Thank you,
Becky Sill
